Equine Program
Yavapai Humane Society’s Equine Program is an adoption-focused program for horses in need of rehabilitation. The Equine Center, located in Chino Valley, Arizona, opened its doors on June 4, 2016.
Interested in adopting a horse? Our YHS Equine Center is located at 3731 N Rd 1 W in Chino Valley. All YHS horse adoptions come with medical and training records, vaccinations, hoof and dental work, and dewormings. Some horses may also come with Pedigree. Prior to adoption, our horses have undergone our ethical training program to learn basic behaviors on the ground and, if applicable, while being ridden. Our goal is to ensure a good match between each horse and their new owner and home.
If you have any questions about any of the horses we have up for adoption or would like to fill out an application for any of them, please call the Equine Center at 928-515-4947 and speak with our Equine Supervisor. You can also call to make an appointment to come in and see any of the available equines.

Adopting a Horse
Are you interested in adopting a horse? We are looking for new homes for horses at the Equine Center. All YHS horse adoptions come with medical and training records, vaccinations, hoof and dental work, and all horses are parasite-free. Prior to adoption, our horses have undergone our ethical training program to learn basic behaviors on the ground and, if applicable, while being ridden. Our goal is to ensure a good match between each horse and their new owner and home.
Before adoption:
– Please fill out our adoption application by calling 928-515-4947 and speak with our Equine Supervisor to get the application (which includes a background check for animal cruelty convictions and supplies references, such as a previous veterinarian)
– Schedule a time for a visit to the Equine Center to learn more about our horses
– If a good match is found between you and one of our horses, our Equine Center staff conducts a brief site visit to the horse’s prospective new home
After adoption:
– We provide support to you after you have adopted a horse from YHS. Please give us a call at 928-515-4947 with questions you may have about your new horse
– We may check in from time to time and would be happy to hear how things are going. We will also come by for a visit to the horse’s new home if you need any support
– If you no longer want to keep your horse, please contact us at any time after you have adopted her or him to return the horse to the Equine Center and we will find a new home. The horse cannot be sold on; this is part of the adoption agreement
